Johannesburg - A teenager went missing at sea in Gordon's Bay on Friday, the National Sea Rescue Institute said.

"Despite an extensive air, sea and shore search no sign of the 18-year -old male, from Eerste River, confirmed to have disappeared under water after being swept out to sea, could be found," the NSIR said in a statement.

There were also unconfirmed reports of a 14-year-old female missing in the same incident.

"These cannot be confirmed as no family have come forward to verify the unconfirmed reports that a female was suspected to be in difficulty in the surf at the same time."

The police diving unit had taken over and would resume the search operation on Saturday.
