Johannesburg - An 18-year-old girl was raped in Moutse West, outside Dennilton, Mpumalanga police said on Monday.

The girl, who was with a male friend, was on her way to study at a house in the area on Sunday, Constable Lethunya Mmuroa said.

While on their way a man in his 20s stopped to offer them a lift.

The man stopped in some bushes and asked them to pay him.

"They told him that they don't have money; the suspect stopped the vehicle and took out [a] firearm.

"He instructed the boy to lie inside [the car] and the girl to go out... He raped that girl outside his car," said Mmuroa.

The man then released the two and drove away.

A case of rape was opened and the girl was taken to the Philadelphia Hospital in Dennilton.

No arrests have been made.
