Johannesburg – A 14-year-old boy drowned at Durban’s Snake Park beach on Friday afternoon, paramedics said.

He and two other boys, aged nine and 17, were swimming when they got into difficulty in the surf, Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said.

Lifeguards pulled the three boys out of the water and began trying to resuscitate the 14-year-old. He died at the scene.

The two others were treated for near-drowning symptoms and were taken to a local hospital.
