Durban - Police rescue divers found the body of a teenager who had drowned in the Umgeni River near Molweni, Durban, on Sunday.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said that police Search and Rescue Unit officers had been dispatched to the scene after people had seen the teen flailing in the water.

It is understood that he had become ensnared in thick river grass and then drowned.

“The police divers were looking for a 17-year-old who is suspected to have drowned,” he said.

The teens body was pulled from the river on Sunday afternoon after a brief search.
