Johannesburg - A 24-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly breaking into the Jeppe police station.

Gauteng police said the man had allegedly targeted the canteen and some of the station's back offices at the weekend.

He appeared in the Jeppe Magistrate's Court on Tuesday and the case was postponed for a week.

"The old canteen and back offices at the police station were broken into and cooldrinks, a police cap, jacket, raincoat, a small fridge, coffee machine and private clothing for the members were stolen," Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said.

He said police on the following shift discovered the break-in.

The man was arrested on Sunday and a crate of cooldrinks allegedly was seized during his arrest.

Police believed he may also be behind previous thefts at the police station.
