Thohoyandou court a disaster - DA

Johannesburg - The dignity of the Thohoyandou Magistrate's Court in Limpopo must be restored, the DA said on Wednesday.

Justice Minister Jeff Radebe should provide adequate resources to the court, said provincial Democratic Alliance spokesperson Langa Bodlani.

"According to a report, people have to wait for more than four hours before they get assisted, and that increases the backlog of cases that needs to resolved," said Bodlani.

He was reacting to a report by the presidency's monitoring and evaluation unit.

It conducted an assessment of the quality of service delivery at various institutions between June and December 2011.

Bodlani said the report indicated that administrative equipment was not working at Thohoyandou. The court did not have lockable storage desks and filing cabinets.

"The security guards, who are not even familiar with court service forms and procedures, are also being used as queue marshals."

He said the DA viewed the court as one of the highest and respected in the province, but its conditions were unpleasant for the people using it.
