Thomas Ferreira crash trial postponed

2012-10-04 10:44

Johannesburg - The trial of the blue light driver who allegedly crashed into West Rand teenager Thomas Ferreira has been postponed, Beeld reported on Thursday.

Joseph Motsamai Semitjie appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrate's court on Wednesday on a charge of reckless driving, but proceedings had to be postponed because there was uncertainty about who would represent him.

In November 2011 he allegedly disregarded a red traffic light while driving former Gauteng local government and housing MEC Humphrey Mmemezi's official vehicle, and crashed into Ferreira's motorcycle.

Semitjie told Magistrate Joachim Nortje that although a lawyer had been appointed for him by the Gauteng local government, he would prefer to retain his own legal representative, Moses Rankoa.

Rankoa indicated he was ready to proceed, but by that stage State prosecutor advocate Micky Thesner had already sent several witnesses home. The trial was postponed until next month.

Ferreira sustained brain injuries, spent three weeks in a coma and is still undergoing intensive rehabilitation therapy.

Can't wait to hear how that alleged red light was allegedly green or what other excuses the politically connected will come up with. Who else will actually be surprised if anything comes of this case?

Typical - bury your heads in the sand and hope that no one will notice then you can just slip away!

BOOO!!! You knew you would be in court today, but your defense is not in place. Pure delaying tactics. Boooo!

Postponed...Well you might as well say f$%K you to the family too. These butthole blue lights think they are above the law, which how this case will be riddled with lies in order for the case to be in the offender's favour.

red lights are a legacy of apartheid colonial oppressors and inherently racist and therefore should be ignored by the new dispensation

How is it possible that no communication between the two lawyers and Semitjie prior to the appointed date took place. Maybe a ploy to delay even further a trial that should have been done and dusted. No wonder our judiciary is not able to cope.

You know that lawyers make more money the more they have to "show up" for proceeding don't you? Two things this world you do with less off.... politicians and lawyers. I've always wondered how it is possible for them to sleep at night.

      rbphiri - 2012-10-04 11:07

True, his a butthole cadre so his probably going to get medical parole for a mere headache, soon enough will have every butthole anc member gracing our golf courses.

@koos: Don't generalise, my friend, its dangerous! I bet your lawyer's number is 1st on your speed dial for when you run into trouble.

      koos.vandermerwe.75 - 2012-10-04 11:49

@marc.schnehage: I have about 9 numbers and to 7 of them I have told them straight to their faces what I think of them. Honestly I have a very low opinion of lawyers and what they do or rather how they do what they do. I do hear about good lawyers with good ethics and an actual human heart but I have come to the conclusion that they are having tea with the tooth fairy. One thing that I have learned: Guilty until proven bankrupt and THAT IS A FACT no matter who you are.

FFS! This is so downright rude and in your face. It takes them a year to see which lawyer they want??? Come on! Its so disrespectful with regards what the case is about. I tell you what....bring me the driver and I will bump him around a little with my car!!!! Arrogant SOBs

  • shirley.steenkamp - 2012-10-04 12:25

Stop playing games and face up to your negligence like a man! I hope they lock you up for a VERY long time!

      Alan - 2012-10-04 15:14

Nobody taught them to drive like that. They probably bought their licenses for "R2.5k" as per Carte Blanche.

Justice delay is justice denied - not saying the accused is guilty but this statement goes for both accused and victim
