Johannesburg - Three policemen are appearing in the Durban Regional Court this week in connection with an alleged assault in December 2011, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate said on Wednesday.

The officers faced charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, spokesperson Moses Dlamini said.

The matter was set down for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

In December 2011, a 37-year-old man became embroiled in an argument with an off-duty policeman at a funfair in Chatsworth, Durban.

Later, three men wearing balaclavas arrived at the man's house and assaulted him and his friends with broomsticks.

After CCTV footage of the assault was viewed, Constable Yogandram Muninsami, Warrant Officer Jerry Abraham, and Sergeant Aniel Dawlat were arrested.
