Johannesburg - Three people were killed and several others wounded when a group of men randomly attacked residents at Fochville, Gauteng police said on Sunday.

Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said the shooting took place at 19:00 on Saturday.

"It is alleged that a group of men moved to several sections of an informal settlement attacking the residents.

"In one section, approximately five shacks were set alight and one person was shot dead. The group then moved to another section where they attacked victims who were sitting in a shebeen," he said.

Dlamini said the men fired shots and two people were killed in the shebeen.

At least six others were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Dlamini said police were busy with the identification of the victims.

"Police are still taking several statements from the witnesses to identify the suspects as well as to establish the motive for the attack," he said.

Why this photo? Is it a gun that went on a rampage? Yes, a gun was used, but most probably an x-police police pistol..

Was this attack random, or is it merely being perceived as such because it is convenient? There can be a deeper motive behind it.

Gun violence happens all over the world even in america people shot people randomly so please don't try to be smart by saying its because of the new south africa, for as long as we live in a country that has so many guns these things will happen

Good point, but that does not mean we have to accept it.

So all motor vehicles must be banned as well? More people die in motorcar incidents in SA than are killed by firearms. What do you expect when romanticised stories are told about the struggle, so that "our children will not forget." What do you expect when a call to "Kill the Boere" is sang from a public platform? What do you expect when the president of the country sings how his machine gun must be brought to him. You think wanted to make love to that as well?

Yeah but in the US, were guns are all over the place the crime is still lower than in south africa. Also to top it off the US if huge compared to south africa
