Johannesburg - The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Tuesday announced it is seeking three judge presidents and four judges to fill vacancies.

One judge president vacancy was available at each of the KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo Divisions of the High Court and at the Land Claims Court, secretary Sello Chiloane said in a statement.

There were two vacancies for judges each at the Supreme Court of Appeal and the Eastern Cape Division of the high court. The high court vacancies were in Bhisho and Grahamstown.

The JSC said nominations should be accompanied by written consent from the candidate, a detailed CV and copies of at least three written judgments by the candidate.

The JSC could still recommend a candidate for any vacancy still open at the time of the interviews, which would be open to the public.

"This is to avoid the situation which has arisen in the past when, despite the availability of suitable candidates, no appointments could be made to fill vacancies which had occurred subsequent to the notice calling for nominations."

The nominations close on 13 February.
