Bloemfontein - Three people died when a police vehicle and a car crashed near Tweespruit on the N8 national road to Thaba 'Nchu on Monday morning.

“It is not clear what happened, but the marked police sedan and a Tata Indica collided head-on at about 06:30,” police spokesperson Constable Peter Kareli said.

“The Tweespruit police were called out and on arrival they found that the Tata’s driver and passenger had died on the scene, as well as one passenger in the police car.”

The three other people in the police car were taken to Thaba 'Nchu hospital.

“Their condition is critical, which made it impossible to determine if they were police officers or administrative personnel who worked at a police station,” Kareli said.

They have determined, however, that one of the injured, the driver of the police vehicle, is a police constable from Kagisanong SAPS.

The police are investigating a case of culpable homicide. The names of the deceased cannot be released until their next of kin have been informed of their deaths.
