Polokwane - Three men who are allegedly linked to a string of violent crimes in Thohoyandou have been arrested, Limpopo police said.

"Three of the most wanted, ruthless and dangerous suspects who have been terrorising communities in the greater Thohoyandou area are finally behind bars after their arrest on Friday," Colonel Ronel Otto said.

She said the three were linked to over 20 cases of house robberies, rapes, murders, attempted murders and hijackings.

Two of them had allegedly broken into a home, and severely assaulted a husband and wife in front of their 9 and 13-year-old daughters, before raping the 13-year-old in front of them.

Police are investigating whether they were linked to other crimes in the province.

The trio are expected to appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrate's Court on Monday.
