Johannesburg - A three-year-old girl was in a serious condition in a Johannesburg hospital after a car bumped her through the window of a shop, Beeld reported on Saturday.

Zoe Tsotsetsi's pelvis was cracked, her liver was bleeding and she was breathing through a ventilator, according to the newspaper.

The girl was walking on the pavement with her parents when a car drove over the pavement and pushed her through a Spar window in Witpoortjie.

"The car's tyre marks are still on her stomach and leg," her mother Diana was quoted as saying.

The driver of the car, Charlene de Wit, said she was still confused and unsure about what happened.

"I can't say if I maybe mistook the petrol for the break but my car didn't stop and my car went over the pavement," De Wit was quoted as saying.

Owner of the Spar Johnny Gonzalez told Beeld that after watching footage of the day, De Wit's car did not enter the parking lot driving slowly.

Security doors and glass doors to the value of R70 000 were broken.
