Johannesburg - A 2-year-old girl has miraculously survived being hit by a double cab bakkie that drove over her and came to a stop with its back wheels on top of her body.

Ronewa Mavhungu was rushed to hospital but was discharged the following day, reported Beeld.

She sustained only scratches and cuts to her face and legs.

The accident happened at an Audi car dealership in Middelburg on Tuesday.

Apparently many motorists who want to avoid a traffic light drive through the car dealership’s parking lot.

A salesman at the car dealership said the little girl and her father had stopped at the dealership to look at a vehicle.

“Simon [the girl’s father] walked outside to his car with the little girl to call his wife in the parking lot,” said Wimpie Pieterse.

Mavhungu put down his daughter so that she could walk herself.

“A red double cab bakkie with a young man and a woman drove through the parking lot to avoid the traffic light and it hit the girl,” said Pieterse.

“I shouted: ‘Stop!’ The bakkie stopped, but on top of the child. I then shouted for it to reverse,” said colleague Thabang Skonde.

No charges were laid with police.
