Three-year-old Pippie Kruger is recovering well at home after she was severely burned when a firelighter exploded in her father's hands on New Years Day. Watch.WATCH

Johannesburg - Doctors say the skin transplant on Thursday night on 5-year-old burn victim Celiwe Maseko was a success.

However, they added, the next seven days were crucial.

It is only then that they will know if the grafts have taken.

Celiwe was severely burnt when her dress caught fire last year and has since had 16 operations..

Her skin cells were harvested and sent to a laboratory in America to be cloned. The skin arrived at OR Tambo International Airport at about 17:15 and 23 minutes later it was at the hospital.

Africa's first transplant using skin grown elsewhere was done on Pippie Kruger last year and her fund was contributing more than R200 000 towards Celiwe’s medical expenses, eNCA said.
