Tokoloshes steal dockets - court evidence

2011-02-28 21:22

Pietermaritzburg - A public petition handed to the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court on Monday alleges that tokoloshes (evil spirits) are being used to steal court dockets.

The petition alleged that murder accused Mduduzi Manqele, a wealthy traditional healer, was "well-known for keeping evil creatures which collect dockets from court".

"We fear, once released, his evil creatures will tamper with the investigations," the petition continued.

A crowd of of people, who had travelled about 45km to the court, protested loudly outside.

Manqele, 48, and co-accused Roger Thusi, 30, face charges of murdering Loyisa Jokweni, 18, whose head was found in a freezer in the home of Thusi's girlfriend in Pietermaritzburg.

A source in the community said Thusi led the police to Manqele after allegedly being told by him to behead Jokweni and put the head in a freezer "to get rich".

Magistrate Bessie du Toit granted Manqele bail after his advocate Martin Krog submitted that there was no evidence against him.

Krog said the allegations against Manqele in the petition were baseless.

Du Toit refused Thusi's application for bail.

After the discovery of the head in the freezer, angry people from the area where Manqele practised set fire to his house and tuckshop.

They also burned the house where Thusi allegedly kept the head, with a frozen snake coiled around it.

The case was adjourned to March 30.

  • maseratifitt - 2011-02-28 21:49

Our population ranges from super intelligent to super superstitious. It will be interesting to see the ratio of one to the other. Each vote counts the same.

      Gundaan - 2011-02-28 23:20

maseratifitt..hey I copied & pasted your name ...too bloody complicated ,,,but I have to agree with your comment "super intelligent to super superstitious " another copy & paste ..the ratio is "inverse " more "tokolshe " believers than others ...good for Plascon paints & their tins ...but becareful ..look under your bed tinight for a short black being with horns , bad breath & feet like a goat ..be very scared ..aw bluff only joking ...

      johanduv - 2011-03-01 13:34

No no, not Super Intelligent vs Super Superstitious. Rather Well Informed vs Extraordinarily Stupid.

      littlesion - 2013-04-08 09:13

so who is the extraodinary stupid and the extraodinary informed - why does it keep being the community - doesn't matter who they are who are the informed ones with the government staying in the position of being the looking like a fool ones? and this they have to get told by way of a petition eventually by the community?

  • tdk25 - 2011-02-28 21:49

    Only in South Africa

      sahil1287 - 2011-03-01 07:52

Actually, you'd be surprised by the level of superstition that is present in even western countries

  • R.Suppards - 2011-02-28 21:55

This is the twentyfirst century, where do these stone age fairy stories come from? We need to exclude ALL stone age thinking persons from public service employment. Do these people go through ANY screening process to assess their suitability for the positions they hold AND GET PAID FOR BY THE TAXPAYER. The whole sinister system of cadre deployment needs a lice comb to eliminate unsuitable persons from public employment, AT ALL LEVELS, STARTING AT THE TOP!!

      rodneykdc - 2011-03-01 07:01

It is rather amazing though , how those stone age individuals take to large German saloons seamlessly!!

      Alfred - 2011-03-01 20:33

Well then you would have to screen them for religion too, as it is a just as primitive superstition.

This Tokoloshe, she does steal the papers u see. Now my kwestion is this my friend - can this Tokoloshe, she can steal the voting papers for da Elekshuns? And if so, hau, is dis Tokoloshe a ANC, IFP or DA Tokoloshe?

  • foulshamnairn - 2011-02-28 22:46

And each one of them gets to vote for the ANC, make you wonder about their mentality.

  • Neil - 2011-02-28 22:57

    What next ?

  • jakes.bluesman - 2011-02-28 23:00

Busi & friends. You're not the first to make a mockery of Christianity and you'll probably won't be the last. Being an atheist is your prerogative just like it's mine to believe in Jesus. Your claims that Jesus is a supernatural being is also incorrect since the life of Jesus was properly documented. Not you nor science could prove otherwise for several centuries. Just be tolerant to people who have different beliefs and refrain from making fun of something you obviously don't understand.

      Alfred - 2011-03-01 07:51

There is certainly not enough evidence to claim Jesus as historical fact. There is no archeological evidence of his existence. There are no contemporaneous accounts of his life or death: no eyewitness accounts, or any other kind of first-hand record. All the accounts of Jesus come from decades or centuries later; the gospels themselves all come from later times, and they certainly cannot be relied on. Belief in Jesus miracles is as ridicules as belief in Tokoloshes.

      FactFile - 2011-03-01 08:34

@ Alfred - Yo man have u been smoking something while u searched for the historical accuracy of Jesus? Firstly go read ur BIBLE boet! There has prophecies from the beginning of time about the SEED (Jesus) to come and b a ransom sacrifice for mankind... and the gospels and books thereafter (of real people living afterwards like Peter and Paul - even historians afterwards)all just proved Jesus' existence. Wow man u something else, but u r the kind of ppl the Bible talks about! Furthermore there is many historical books that prove Jesus' existence so do better research. No book has been recorded more accurately than the Bible and has been kept safe throughout the times of past. And u probably think the prophecies Jesus made about the time of the end that we're living in, all this things that's happening today is by mere chance...??? Ignorance!!!

      CorneN - 2011-03-01 08:45

FactFile, you dont know the origin of your bible at all do you? I suggest you google for a documentary called "Who wrote the bible". And no, its not just another Athiest film. Its by a theologian. ;)

      Viparo - 2011-03-01 09:23

@Factfile - You're allowed to believe in whatever you want man. This doesn't however change the fact that there is no historical evidence of Jesus Christ' existence, other than the bible and scriptures hundreds of years after his death. I'm not belittling your faith at all, really, but how accurate do you think something will be, when recorded hundreds of years after his death, then compiled by priests (for their own gain) hundreds of years later again? Above all, there are many "gods" that were around long before Jesus, with the same story as his. The Egyptian god Horus as an example, was born to a virgin, had 12 disciples, healed the sick, walked on water, was crucified and resurrected 3 days later and was called the lamb of God. Another example is the Persian god Mithra whom as Horus above, had all the characteristics of Jesus, but both gods appeared almost a thousand years before Jesus. That does have to make you think doesn't it? Could it just be the same god/story as the others rehashed? Again, I'm not belittling your faith, and the teachings of Jesus is something everyone can benefit from, but Jesus is not historical fact I'm afraid, in fact, as conveyed above, there were messiahs long before him.

  • j.malemmer - 2011-02-28 23:49

  • Kiewiet52 - 2011-03-01 02:16

    OK!!!

  • Gerald - 2011-03-01 05:21

Not only do the tokoloshes steal dockets, they also cause AIDS (the thinning disease)which can only be countered by obesity as practised by ANC members of parliament. This is the intelligence of the people that voted this government into power. Vive democtracy! Viva!

  • AJ - 2011-03-01 05:31

FFS - the fact one of these people gets to cancel out my vote based on what some tokolosh or whatever will do is rather irritating, to say the least..

  • Met - 2011-03-01 05:33

There are no tokoloshes BUT there are certainly demonic beings.Like the earth being round, you may not believe it, but I can assure you that they are VERY real.I too, for many years, did not believe this, but after I made an important decision, some character did not like it and these things manifested in my presence.Do you think that the creatures in Harry Potter are fictitious? No, ask JK Rowling.Do you think that all the cartoon characters the kids watch on Saturday mornings, are fairy tales? Think again. Many reflect very real demonic beings. The spirit world is very real, believe it

  • Werner - 2011-03-01 08:49

Isn't the Tokolosh the little guy with the massive dong that makes a woman pregnant while her husband is working at the mine?

      Kenko - 2011-03-01 11:48

I think you are probably the closest to the real origin of the tokoloshe. Male goes off to plunder, and when he returns the female is pregnant. Rather than naming the boy next door, a mythical thing is conjured up and named the daddy. I will probably go to hell for this, but wasn't that more or less the same thing Mary did? I must say for non-believers, this is the only logical explanation.

  • William Baker - 2011-03-01 08:49

  • Souf-Efrikan - 2011-03-01 09:09

The devil is not only in the detail these days... Wonder if upgrades to Zuma's house includes bricks to put under the beds. We would not want the Tokoloshe to steal his ANC membership card, cause then they will have to break in to get to heaven (or bribe the gatekeeper).

  • Mr Hobbit - 2011-03-01 09:13

These Tokoloshes are all over the place. They are full of mischief. They don't just steal your things, they also break your things. Everytime time you find something broken or missing, you will also find that there is no one responsible for that. Then you must remember: it was the Tokoloshe!

  • Mr Hobbit - 2011-03-01 09:14

I am not a Hobbit really. I am a Tokoloshe, but I speak English.

  • Ben - 2011-03-01 09:15
