Top soldier convicted in Boeremag trial

2012-08-01 17:01

Pretoria - Another Boeremag member was convicted of high treason by the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Wednesday.

Colonel Magiel Burger, a former training officer at the Lohatlha military base in the Northern Cape, was the sixth of the 20 Boeremag accused to be found guilty.

Handing down judgment, Judge Eben Jordaan said Boeremag leader Mike du Toit and his brother Andre were not planning a Sunday school picnic, but a coup when they travelled 700km to meet Burger in September 2001.

Burger met the two only once.

However, afterwards his name appeared in several places in a revised version of Mike du Toit's war plan, known as Document 12, for a violent rightwing coup.

The judge rejected Burger's claims that they had discussed only area protection at the meeting and not a coup.

Burger was tasked in Document 12 with taking over the Lohatlha and Kimberley military bases during the coup.

According to evidence, he had also undertaken to draw up a plan to take over Lohatlha under the guise of planning a military exercise.

He was tasked with preparing military vehicles and equipment for the coup and was mentioned as someone who could get military explosives to blow up power lines.

Police agent JC Smit testified that Burger had told the others that what they were planning could cost him his career, but that it did not matter.

This was at a meeting at the home of fellow-accused Major Jacques Olivier.

He had also referred to himself as a Boer and a patriot.

Police agent Colonel Koos Labuschagne testified that he was so concerned about Burger's name being mentioned in connection with a coup that he made an anonymous call to Burger, warning him to stop all further contact with rightwingers.

Labuschagne had undergone training under Burger in the 1980s and respected him as an officer.

Burger described Document 12 as a "flight of fantasy" drawn up by someone "who was not very intelligent" and "had no knowledge whatsoever" of revolutionary warfare.

He said he had no knowledge of the coup plot and it had never been discussed with him.

He insisted that he had reported the conversation to his superiors and called witnesses to support this version.

Jordaan found that a coup had been discussed, that Burger was a willing participant and that he had never reported the plot to anyone.

He had reported only a watered-down version of a meeting with members of "an extremist church" and the possibility that weapons might be stolen at Lohatlha, possibly to keep a back door open for himself.

The judge said that although Burger had more than one opportunity to report his conversation with the Du Toits to the police, he had not mentioned it, not even after being confronted with his name in Document 12.

This fact alone made him guilty of treason, Jordaan concluded.

The persons responsible for the total education mess should also be tried for treason. Then they and the boeremag can use the same prison cell.

Dis n jammerte dat n klein persentasie van die Afrikaner volk ons naam so K#K KAN MAAK. Shame on you lot. Genade tog.

      Honker - 2012-08-02 09:26

True, but I think the ANC with it's communist aspirations might even be trying to dumb down the population. After all, the uneducated doesnt make for much of a threat to an oligarchy like the ANC. The ANC makes as good a government as they made terrorists in the old days - terrible, useless, incompetent. They are so desperate to humiliate and destroy any semblance of resistance to their tyranny that they jump at the opportunity to lock these people away. They are, after all way more competent than the half-wits we have in our military today. The irony is that, eventually whites will face genocide in South Africa, either by ANC involvement or incompetence. I think, most likely by their involvement. If they were against the thousands of tortures and murders of whites in this country, they would have spoken out against it ages ago. The other most bitter part is that we are facing this genocide because of white traitors like the ones mentioned in this article. Who else could stop competent white ex-SADF officers but whites themselves? Truly knowing how deep the rot has sunk into our military and police force of today will know what I am talking about. Pathetic. When the time comes I want YOU to realise what you have done.

  • chaplinncharlie - 2012-08-01 17:07

Well at least one thing is for sure.. If history does repeat it again we will have a Stock on Future Presidents...

  • johan.vanheerden.737 - 2012-08-01 17:12

      Piet - 2012-08-02 10:38

Yes and you WILL be the perfect citizen, to this rotten goverment, who does not have it in you to stand up, and try to do something for your own rightfull existance and that of your people......

i think justice has being done

      john.fourie.18 - 2012-08-01 18:28

Why the dislikes? They commit a crime. They clearly did. The guy is correct. Justice has been done. It is probably the same people who complain about double standards that is now crying foul because these guys have been convicted. Whilst I am not denying that there is double standards, two wrongs never make a right.

      Honker - 2012-08-02 09:30

How about some more justice? How bout we throw the Marxist baby-killers Mkhonto we sizwe in jail? They are after all guilty of REAL murder, not of planning it. I hear it is easy to find them all these days. They hold meetings and gatherings all over the country, acting like they "won" something back in 1992, instead of realising that whites voted for a democracy. The irony of it all... but I guess your ANC bibles give you different versions of the "truth."

      Honker - 2012-08-02 09:38

@John I just had to reply to your comment... Terrorists(REAL ones) took over our country in 1994, and you call them "government." Wipe the snot out of your eyes and see the real world. Any government replacing this pathetic one is likely to rule better and with less tyranny. Your genocide is on the cards and you talk about "justice?" Democracy itself is only a front-runner to an oligarchy led by an oppressive elite, and we can see that happening already. The only model of governing that allows it's people peace is a republic, where the government's power is limited by the constitution, to protecting the people and their rights. Do you understand any of this?? The ANC is already planning on changing the constitution to fit themselves!

"Convicted of High Treason" - so there has to be a low version too then??? - 2012-08-01 17:50

There used to be laws for "petty treason" (in the UK), though I don't think it's in use anymore, and I'm not sure whether it was ever in use in SA.

  • kevin.pitzer - 2012-08-01 17:39

With all the problems we have today didnt these guys not realise they would have just accelerated a bloodbath with no winners ?

  • Sowhat? - 2012-08-01 17:39

      kaspaas.breekwater - 2012-08-01 18:14

I myself, wonder if this really exist. They are all found guilty of crimes that did not even took place yet. For the right amount of money, anybody can be found guilty of something.

      victor.tamaranui - 2012-08-01 18:31

@ Kaspaas, Plotting to overthrow a legitimate government, we in the educated world call treason. Best Not to indicate to the Public one's your single digit IQ.

      kaspaas.breekwater - 2012-08-01 22:13

"legitimate government" - LMGA - Maybe these guys just followed the example set by Mandela - The oldest terrorist in SA.

      Honker - 2012-08-02 09:53

@Victor Democracy is only one form of governmental system. It is useless, especially in South Africa's case, where the largely uneducated masses are easily manipulated into voting for a government that really don't care for them. Thus, the opinion of the educated, intelligent, TAX PAYING few is cast aside in favor of the uneducated, primitive, quick-to-procreate masses. Thus, democracy FAILS. Even the USA is circling the drain faster by the day as they seem to see themselves as a democracy instead of the republic that Benjamin Franklin gave them. They reject socialism, but their liberal government is making more and more socialist laws until one day they will wake up and realise they live in a socialist state, not the freedom under a prosperous republic they once were.

      victor.tamaranui - 2012-08-01 18:33

The World has known for a long time now, whom exactly wants Genocide in RSA. This just vindicates the facts.

      gestoffle.vaneerdenvark - 2012-08-02 02:19

It will not change either, the ANC has genocide polices written all over it. Thanks for pointing that out, you fukwit stanger muncher.

      johan.vanheerden.737 - 2012-08-02 08:53

Banele - pls check your facts - Col Burger does not hate blacks - as OC of a Venda battalion all his troops respected him and would have followed him to the end of the earth

      Honker - 2012-08-02 10:00

Banele have you come across facts that are not mentioned in this article? If you have, will you please share them, because I haven't seen the mention of these people "hating black people." They saw terrorists in government, and decided to remove them. The ANC will rule "till Jesus comes," not because they are in any way competent, but because of the braindead voters. Democracy FAILS.

  • bernpm - 2012-08-01 18:30

Please take that word and proceed to slowly insert it into your rectum without any lubrication. That word has been used by blacks for decades to get sympathy, and basically ANYTHING they want. It is time for whites to become immune to that stupid BS.

      Cuteandbronzed - 2012-08-02 13:45

@Honker your way to racist, shows that any voting by blacks for the DA will only lead them to another form of oppression, judging from all the thumbs down on this forum your all waiting ofr us to fall trap to the same opressive state, well Guess what we already know that and I pray for your demise everyday. I dont belive in a god I do belive in a universe, and that atleast carries more justice than your biblicle god, head up the universe might just answere my please for you to go through UNDERSTANDING

      Honker - 2012-08-02 16:20

@Blackyoungandangry With an alias like that I wonder if your comment shouldnt rather be directed at a mirror. Intelligent people think for themselves. Amongst the black majority there is an intelligent black minority who doesn't think like the rest of the herd. It's called FREE THINKING - not depending on big-daddy ANC for deciding what is right for you. You I am happy to give up hope on, but they will decide for themselves who they vote for. The DA is a leftist party that will only keep SA on the same route it is already on. People are at least waking up to the truth, when you see the comments on N3ws24, a leftist tool, change so drastically, I think even the libtards are waking up in this country. As for you, once you have completed with the word insertion(no lube now! don't cheat!), and washed your hands, contact me again and we can continue this discussion.

can someone tell me, who was a terrorist during the Anglo-Boer war?

      Adil Smit - 2012-08-01 20:49

There is a monument in aklerksdorp for all the black South Africans that died in the Anglo- Boer War - black and white South Africans fought together in that war. I guess thoose burning down farms, poisoning water wells and letting thousands if women die in the concentration camps?

      Adil Smit - 2012-08-01 20:50

Have a look at Wikipedia of the Anglo- Boer War.

      schalk.burger.988 - 2012-08-02 01:42

      The English!

      Honker - 2012-08-02 10:10

Terrorists attack innocent people, not military installations. That means that the ANC and their Mkhonto we Sizwe were definately terrorists. As far as the Anglo Boer war goes, the British fit that profile more accurately than the Boers. 34 000 of my people died in concentration camps. The British might as well have shot them, they would have been equally guilty. That shouldn't divide us now, though. As white South Africans we face the same foe, and their agenda is GENOCIDE.

  • Amanda - 2012-08-01 20:23

@ Velile. There WERE no TERRORISTS in those days my friend. Only Boers fighting for their rightful land against the Imperialist British Government. Read your History Books. You might learn a lot.

  • walter.lebza - 2012-08-01 20:59

They say the plan was to form a state where indians will be deported to the sea and blacks to nighbouring countries like zimbabwe, coloureds will be moved to the cape for incase they wanted servants, where one God the Lord will be worshiped, anyone who stood on their way will be shot. They made a mistake by including the Lord in their evil plan, because the Lord is not a partaker of evil. In this case I say they blasphemed God. taking anything by force is called covertiousness in the bible, sinful. They must never follow in the footsteps of their fathers who took every fertile piece of land they came across by force, and majority of this land is still owned by them, they are not thankful.

"Burger described Document 12 as a "flight of fantasy" drawn up by someone "who was not very intelligent" and "had no knowledge whatsoever" of revolutionary warfare." Could not have been better put. Nothing describes brainlessless as good as the ability to conceive nothingfulness out of something.

  • gerda.vanrensburg - 2012-08-02 10:12

I don't know how they thought they could plan and execute something like this with only a few loyal participants, forgetting there will always be snitches around. Did they think they could compare it with David and Goliath? Not so as that time there where no firearms, etc. Taking into consideration those accused have been in jail for a number of years I might be sure that they will not try to pull of something similar again and should be paroled.
