Johannesburg - The trial date for a woman accused of killing her five children has been set for early September, the National Prosecuting Authority said on Tuesday.

"Both the State and the defence are ready. The date was set for 3 September at the North West High Cour, sitting in the Vryburg Magistrate's Court," said Frank Lesenyego.

The date was decided on during a pre-trial conference on Tuesday.

Venolia Siwa, 35, is accused of drowning her children, aged between two and 13, when she thought a lethal concoction she had given them was not working fast enough.

She was arrested last year when the bodies were found at a house in Lower Majeakgoro village.

Siwa spent 30 days in a mental institution in January for evaluation.
