Cape Town - A trio, whose alleged plan to kill a 14-year-old failed when they allegedly shot another man dead, appeared on various charges in the Western Cape High Court on Friday.

Tracksuit-clad Serge Petersen, Craig Ligwa and Taswell Brown appeared for a pre-trial hearing on five charges, including attempted murder, murder and housebreaking.

Prosecutor Jacqueline Sibiya said she had provided most of the docket to the defence and asked for another pre-trial hearing.

Judge Robert Henney postponed the matter until May 29.

According to the summary of facts, the trio allegedly stormed a shack in Hanover Park on September 24 last year to look for a 14-year-old boy.

The shack belonged to the boy's mother Chantelle Fuller and her boyfriend, Zane Matthyssen.

They allegedly fired shots, and Matthysen died from wounds to the buttocks and abdomen while being taken to hospital.

Fuller was shot and injured in the attack.

“The State alleges that the crimes were planned or premeditated and were committed in execution or furtherance of a common purpose or conspiracy,” the summary read, without explaining why the men were looking for the 14-year-old boy.
