Pietermaritzburg - Brazen hijackers attacked a delivery truck in the Allandale area, capturing the driver and escaping with undisclosed amounts of cash and cigarettes, on Thursday.

According to police sources, the truck driver parked outside a shop near the Allandale Primary School to deliver cigarettes.

Two men approached the driver who fled into the shop.

The men allegedly entered the shop and dragged the driver back into his delivery truck, getting in behind him.

It is then believed the men drove the vehicle, with the driver still inside, along Old Greytown Road until they reached a plantation near Bambatha Road on the R33.

The two alleged hijackers then parked the truck and fled the scene, escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes
