Truck with cellphones worth R7m recovered

2013-07-18 09:49

Johannesburg - A hijacked truck containing medicines and cellphones worth over R7m was recovered in Primrose on Wednesday, Gauteng police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said the truck was hijacked in Boksburg on Wednesday morning when the driver was stopped by armed men in three vehicles.

"It is suspected that as soon as the truck was hijacked, the suspects activated a jamming device and the truck could not be located by a tracking signal," he said.

"It was later located parked outside a shop in Primrose. Some of the goods were already off-loaded into the back of the shop. One box with the cell phones had been opened and several packets stolen."

He said the truck was on its way to deliver the goods at a company dealing with distribution.

Police recovered eight boxes of Nokia cellphones, each box containing 720 cellphones, medicine and a tracking device, he said.

"The driver of the truck and a shop owner were arrested and police are still searching for more suspects," he said.

South Africa has become such a wonderful place where the driver and shop owner can go home to their wife and children..... Hi honey how was your day? "Not bad we received a whole truck load of stolen phones today that was given to us buy customs at the airport. the system is wonderful and works so well. We off loaded it in broad daylight, also got some lunch while they were busy. I made R1000 what a bargain. now it will be sold to people and the shop owner will make thousands. The days get brighter and brighter in this South Africa that we have been given. Just unfortunate the damn police arrived there and arrested me, not sure why but sure I will be back soon. But this gang is well known, they always hijack trucks carrying either cigarettes or liquor. Most of the time the trucks are found around Pretoria and Garankuwa to be precise. Suspects are arrested and released within minutes. Some use blue lights even. Where are our Crime Intelligence Officers.
