Johannesburg - A truck driver discovered a decomposing body in an inaccessible, vacant lot while washing his vehicle in the industrial area of City Deep on Monday evening, a Johannesburg emergency worker said.

The driver was on the truck's roof when he saw the body in an open space behind a factory, said Johannesburg Emergency Management Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi.

"An ambulance was called, but we could see immediately that the man was dead," said Mulaudzi.

The body was that of a man who was aged about 40. It appeared that he had been dead for a few days.

Police were at the scene late on Monday to retrieve the body.

"This is not a place where people walk. It is very unusual," said Mulaudzi.

Murderers these days do not even take the trouble to drop the bodies of victims down an unused mineshaft as in the old days when we stil had an effective police force
