Tshwane announces water curbs

2011-11-16 19:35

Pretoria - The Tshwane metro has announced temporary water restrictions in a bid to avoid shortages because of ongoing repairs at the Roodeplaat Water Treatment Works.

The restrictions applied to the Daspoort, Suiderberg, Wonderboom Suid, Gezina, Montana, Garsfontein and Lynnwood areas, spokesperson Dikeledi Phiri said on Wednesday.

"Due to the repairs... the water supply to these areas is now [being] supplied via other sources and reservoirs. Water therefore needs to be used sparingly."

Phiri said residents with even street numbers were allowed to water their gardens on even dates from 06:00 to 08:00 and from 18:00 to 22:00.

Those with odd street numbers were to water their gardens on odd dates, during the same time periods.

"These restrictions will be enforced with immediate effect until further notice. A spot fine of R5 000 per incident can be issued if the... water restrictions are transgressed," Phiri said.

How will people know about this, and the "spotfine" if they do not read internet news articles?

  • mike.vanzyl1 - 2011-11-16 20:56

I am not aware of a town or city called Tswane in South Africa.

  • Mark - 2011-11-16 21:27

You are right, Mike, there is no such city or town name. This has not stopped the poisonous Tshwane Municipality from insinuating this name on Pretoria's resentful taxpayers; and with their money as well!

Fortunately I live in Pretoria, so this does not affect me..

@mike and dumb idiots, there is a municipality called the tshwane metro, and in the article it says clearly: "Pretoria - The Tshwane metro has announced ", if you idiots don't know, the tshwane metro consists of the following towns/cities: Akasia Atteridgeville Bronberg Bronkhorstspruit Centurion Crocodile River Cullinan/Rayton/Refilwe Eersterust Ekangala Elands River Ga-Rankuwa Hammanskraal Laudium Mabopane Mamelodi Pienaarsrivier Pretoria Rethabiseng Roodeplaat Soshanguve Temba Winterveld Zithobeni They don't talk about pretoria as tshwane...

      Hugh - 2011-11-17 08:32

@cy are you so blind that you do not accept toungue in cheek humour? To shoot your high horse and put you on a Donkey. Tshwane is not a municipality per se'. It is a metropolitan made up of a group Municipalities. However the claim the tshwane is Pretoria is a long standing political one. Even SABC and eTV refuses to call Pretoria by its historical name.

Thank god it is happening in Tswane and not Pretoria. Then of coarse the Oran/guatengs that run that place they like to call Tswane refused to introduce rain water harvesting to save the national resource and for stored use in situations such as this. They instead introduced "other source" Bylaws that may at anytime be implimented allowing them to charge us for harvesting rainwater for domestic use.
