Tshwane mayor not talking to IFP MP

2012-06-01 11:05

Johannesburg - IFP MP Koos van der Merwe has laid a criminal charge against Tshwane Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa for allegedly ignoring him for four months, according to a report on Friday.

Van der Merwe says Ramokgopa's refusal to acknowledge his presence or engage with him was interfering with his functions as an MP, Beeld newspaper reported.

He has charged Ramokgopa with contravening the Powers, Privileges and Immunities of Parliament and Provincial Legislatures Act. If contravened, the Act makes provision for a jail term of up to three years, and a fine.

Van der Merwe told Beeld he met with Ramokgopa on January 19, in an attempt to help Juan Ferreira, who was battling to get the police department to give him a diploma he had qualified for.

At the time of the meeting, Ramokgopa apologised for the way in which Ferreira had been treated, but he has subsequently refused to engage with Van der Merwe, the MP claimed.

      Kala - 2012-06-01 12:39

And if according to this articles opening paragraph, ignoring someone is a criminal offence, the why has the ANC has been charged for ignoring the country?

Ai Koos, it is normal and acceptable to ignore people, are you only finding that out now. I've been waiting longer than 1 year for my manager to reply on e-mails and Unisa is the same. Get over it. It is normal these days

Tshwane council needs to wake the f up. This idiot at the helm is steering the council to the bottom of the sea.

      Napolita - 2012-06-01 12:15

Except Tshwane is land-locked, the sea is rather far.

      Press - 2012-06-01 16:29

Except Tshwane has sunk so low - high tide might reach it . . . .
