Johannesburg - Tshwane residents should anticipate extremely hot weather for the entire week due to a passing heat wave in the area, the city's emergency services said on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Johan Pieterse warned residents that the excessive hot weather could result in heat exhaustion, which could be life-threatening.

"These heat-related illnesses are presented with minor symptoms such as heat rash, which progresses to heat cramps, then heat exhaustion, and finally to heat stroke (a life-threatening medical condition)."

The city was ready to respond to any heat related incidents which could occur, Pieterse said.
