Tuks student gets restraining order

2012-03-28 10:22

Johannesburg - A University of Pretoria medical student was on Tuesday granted an urgent protection order against a classmate who had allegedly been sexually harassing him for a year.

The court order prevents the classmate from making any physical, electronic or telephonic contact with his fellow student.

Both are fourth year medical students at the University of Pretoria.

The student said in a sworn statement that the classmate made his first advances in the campus library last year, Beeld reported.

Despite the student's firm rejection, and saying he was not gay, the classmate began sending him Facebook messages that alternated declarations of love with threats of physical harm.

His messages reportedly included: "I am going to sit behind you and follow you on campus and in your car... I love you, I am going to stalk you for the next three years... Man bitch! Fag! Weirdo! I'm going to bliksem you!"

His mother apologised to the student via a lawyer's letter and agreed to the terms of the restraining order. This letter would be submitted to the psychologist currently treating the classmate.

I don't know about you all, but IF the stalker guy is granted a license to practice medicine, I wanna know who he is right now. That way, I'll end up nowhere near his practice.

      Clifford - 2012-03-28 10:49

      Aag Cute..

      John - 2012-03-28 10:56

With you on that one... He obviously is not a well balanced man

      Neill - 2012-03-28 11:07

Still a better love story than Twilight...

      rbphiri - 2012-03-28 11:34

Lol he even invited the guy on facebook, he should also file for rape, since he was being POKED by force.

      William - 2012-03-28 12:18

Do you want to tell us that the "normal" heterosexual Doctors should not treat patients of the opposite sex? This is just a question of "being attracted to the Guy" . It does not mean he will be interested in each and every male he comes across, just as you are not attracted to each and everybody in a skirt.

      Erich - 2012-03-28 13:22

This is a case where the HPCSA should intervene instead of flogging a dead horse (Wouter Basson case).

      roberta.keeling - 2012-03-28 13:29

He'll probably specialise in prostate examinations!

      Justin - 2012-03-29 08:12

@WILLIAM - stop being a fool. The issue isnt his sexual orientation. It is the fact that he is mentally unbalanced evidently. So i repeat - WILLIAM, stop being a fool.

Justin - 2012-03-29 08:51 His pic and name

  • Consolata - 2012-03-28 10:36

Just wondering how if they are in the same class or if they go to similar classes cos its gonna be hard to restrain him. Goodluck to the young man. I currently have a traffic officer stalking me on campus and he too had the audacity to say that he is stalking me, I see him everyday. I just dont know what to do about it.

      Brett - 2012-03-28 10:39

Get a gun and use it.

      Skuiter - 2012-03-28 10:39

      stop speeding?

      Consolata - 2012-03-28 10:42

      @ skuiter. I dont have a car

      Skuiter - 2012-03-28 10:45

Then i suggest you get one

      Consolata - 2012-03-28 10:53

@ skuiter. Why? So that he can find out where I live just by looking at my registration number and checking it out with the traffic department. This is my last year in varsity, i'm getting one at the end of this year. By then I will be off campus and its much easier to blend into a crowd right now then drive off in a car.

      Skuiter - 2012-03-28 11:17

Maybe you just suffer form persecution syndrome eh?

      Marion - 2012-03-28 11:26

Hi Consolata. To my knowledge the first place you start is with the police where you lay a formal charge. If this traffic officer is employed on campus, report to management. If he is not employed by the campus, report it at the highest level to the traffic department. At least if you make it known and something does happen to you (and I pray to God it never does) they will have prime suspect already in their targets and you will get justice. Good luck girl. Must be really scary.

      Consolata - 2012-03-28 11:37

@marion. Thanks for the advice. I've been to the police and they said that they cant do anything about it until he does something....he happens to know my lecture and tutorial schedueles and luckily cos i'm a postgrad student I finish class at 6pm and by that time he has gone home. I also dont know what his name is and I have told my friends about him and they have seen him too cos often when I am in class he will pass by and peer into the classroom and stare at me, so my friends know what he looks like. I also make sure that I always leave with friends so that i'm never alone. Other than that, I dont know what else to do.

      Khutso Rele Mokgosi - 2012-03-28 11:40

consolata i also had a stalker. luckily he wasnt in any of my classes. he would call my res everyday to speak to me. ask people where i was and when he saw me he would follow me. he even created a fake fb account and downloaded my pictures. whenever he saw me talking to a guy he would confront the guy and if the guy said he is my partner he would beat them up. i finally reported him to the authorities when a guy in the same res as him told me that he has pictures of me all over his walls in his room. some people are just sick

      Consolata - 2012-03-28 11:48

@skuiter. I dont even know what to say to you. Maybe you should try and imagine what it feels like having someone follow you around everyday. This person knows where your classes are, follows you to your classes and stares at you. If told me that he has been watching me for some time. I dont even know when it started, but he told me this about 2 months ago when I was alone studying outside. To answer your question NO I dont think that I have persecution syndrome, whatever that is!

      Consolata - 2012-03-28 11:58

@khutso. Did anything actually happen to your stalker? Did he get arrested?

      sharifa.martin - 2012-03-28 14:26

@Consolata - I see you are at UCT - Go to DISCHO or CPS - I work for the university, you can find me on the mailing list if you need contact details.

      marnusmnorval - 2012-03-28 20:49

Consolata stalk him right back.. reverse psychology mohahah

  • Hendrik - 2012-03-28 10:42

Never mind the restraining order and the mother's apology. I sure as hell hope this wacko will be removed from the medical studies. The community may be in need of medical people but NOT one like this.

  • tersssia.b - 2012-03-28 11:25

Oh my word! A medical student getting psychology treatment and sexually harassing another male! We DON'T need doctors like that in SA! (or anywhere else in the world).

  • John - 2012-03-28 11:27

Dear God , why is this sort of nonsense a headline

      Michael - 2012-03-28 11:42

We need to know the doctors that we consult with. You don't want general anaesthetic only to wake up with a torn ring! (lol)

      Deon - 2012-03-28 11:49

Some people need to go for prostate exams, might not want to go to such a doctor unless they are also gay.

  • Quinton - 2012-03-28 11:36

  • phathuchicos - 2012-03-28 11:48

  • Sene - 2012-03-28 18:51

The stalker is:mnr. Gregory Bonarius & even a pic at the following link

  • Jacqueline - 2012-03-28 19:26

It would make this article much more interesting and news worthy if the reporter actually spoke to a lawyer and gave information to people who are being stalked/targeted/threatened etc about what their options are and who to contact for advice. At least then this ridiculous article would serve a purpose.

  • leedsunitedfc - 2012-03-28 20:22

Hahahahahaha many many patients are going to be treated by this guy one day
