Cape Town - Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu will stay in hospital for another two weeks after being put on a new course of antibiotics, the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation said on Thursday.

"He is in good spirits and not in any pain," the foundation said in a statement.

His daughter, Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu, said her father was grateful to the media for its concern over his health, but he "had humbly requested journalists not to anticipate daily updates on his condition".

"Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu is on a new course of intensive antibiotic treatment that will continue for two weeks in hospital.

"Any change in his condition would be communicated by the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation."

The family expressed appreciation for the "prayers and good wishes" from so many people.
