Johannesburg - Two Gauteng police officers were killed in the space of a few hours on Friday night and Saturday morning.

Posts on the official SA Police Service Twitter and Facebook pages on Saturday indicated that the two were killed in separate incidents.

The first officer was shot in Laudium, Atteridgeville on Friday night.

"Last night in Atteridgeville, an off-duty police officer was shot at 20:00 and passed away in hospital three hours later," said SAPS.

At around 02:10 on Saturday, two other officers were shot in Hillbrow, Johannesburg.

"One of them was fatally wounded and the other one was wounded," SAPS wrote.

Details surrounding the incident were not immediately clear.

The police however, called for anyone with information to come forward.

"This means that three police officials were shot within a six hour period in Gauteng. Someone, somewhere, knows something about those responsible - please call Crime Stop, you may remain anonymous 0860010111," SAPS wrote on its Facebook page.
