Johannesburg - Two Tshwane metro police officers have died in two separate accidents over the weekend, the department said on Sunday.

“It is a very sad moment as the department experiences the sudden death of yet another two members in separate incidences (sic),” said spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.

In the first incident on Friday, an officer was knocked down by a car while on duty in Van Der Hoff road on Friday.  He died on the scene.

In the second incident, an off-duty officer was involved in a collision on Saturday night while he was travelling in the Marble Hall area.

“He passed away with two other people from his vehicle, his friend and one family member.

His wife and child were taken to hospital following the accident.

Last weekend, two Tshwane metro officers were killed when the car they were travelling in collided with a cow and three other vehicles near the Murray Hill off-ramp along the N1 near Pretoria on Friday night.

On Sunday, Mahamba extended condolences on behalf of the department to the families, friends and colleagues of those who had died.
