Cape Town - Two men have been arrested for the murder of a doorman at the popular Cape Town pub Beerhouse on Long.

"[A] police investigation into the murder of a 33-year-old Congolese national, Joe Louis Kanyana, led to the arrest of two male suspects aged 20 and 21 respectively last night [Thursday]," Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said.

"The suspects who were arrested at different locations in the Cape Town CBD area are due to make a court appearance in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Monday."

He said the investigation had yet to be finalised and the possibility of more arrests could not be ruled out.

Kanyana was stabbed to death at the pub on Saturday night.

Beerhouse on Long said on its website that the incident occurred after he requested identity documents from a customer.

"As part of our efforts to support Joe’s wife and four month-old daughter, we have erected a keg wall at Beerhouse on Long.

"Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Woodstock Brewery, Jack Black, Belgian Beers, Apollo Brewing, Cape Brewing Company (CBC) and Windermere, we are able to offer our patrons the chance to make a donation to the... family and pull a pint in honour of Joe," the pub said.
