Pretoria - Two people who allegedly killed a police officer in the Jeffsville informal settlement in Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria last week, were arrested on Sunday, Gauteng police said.

"The suspects were arrested... at Bosman taxi rank today at around 13:00," Brigadier Mashadi Selepe said in a statement.

"[A] manhunt for the third suspect believed to be in possession of a firearm used to kill a member continues."

Selepe said on Saturday that the 37-year-old off duty constable was in his car when two men and a woman approached him and shot him dead before fleeing.

He later died at the Kalafong hospital.

Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant General Lesetja Mothiba said at the time: "The killing of even one police officer, is one too many. This is a loss to the police, deprives the community of the safety they deserve and compromises service delivery."
