Durban - Two people were killed when a motorcycle collided head-on with a car on Marine Drive near Uvongo on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast on Saturday.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said that the collision took place near the Queen Elizabeth Road junction shortly after 14:00.

“The cause of the accident and preceding event is still speculative. When paramedics arrived that the scene they found that two people were traveling on the motorbike when it was involved in a collision with a car,” he said.

One biker had sustained life-threatening injuries and the other biker had tragically died on impact. The occupants from the vehicle had sustained minor injuries and were visibly traumatised,” Botha added.

He said that medics desperately tried to stabilise the injured rider who sadly died at the scene.

“Paramedics worked fervently for an hour and ten minutes to resuscitate the injured biker. Despite all their efforts he was declared dead at the scene. The two occupants from the car did not require treatment or transportation to hospital.”
