Bloemfontein - The police have made a breakthrough in their investigation into the hijacking and rape of a 28-year-old woman in Mangaung with the arrest of two men.

The men, aged 28 and 30, appeared briefly in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

The victim and her 45-year-old male companion were surprised by a group of five men who chased away her boyfriend. The pair had made a brief stop to allow the boyfriend to relieve himself when the suspects pounced.

All five suspects then jumped into the vehicle and drove away with the victim. They stopped at an open field in Phase 4 where they took turns raping the woman before fleeing.

During their investigation, the police were led to a shack where two of the suspects were arrested on Thursday last week.

The case was postponed until June 15 and the men will remain in custody.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the three remaining suspects can contact Detective Sergeant Motshelisi Lichaba on 051 406 4493.
