Johannesburg - Two people were injured, one critically, in a shooting in Kempton Park, on the East Rand, on Friday afternoon, paramedics said.

"ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene and found both patients on the side of the road," ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

"One of the patients was in a critical condition after he sustained a gunshot wound to his chest."

Paramedics began treating the man, providing him with advanced life support to stabilise his vital signs.

"Once treated, he was airlifted by medical helicopter to a private hospital in Johannesburg," Meiring said.

The second man on the scene only had minor injuries. He was treated on scene and taken to the Aarwyp clinic.

Police were on the scene, and were investigating.
