Johannesburg - Two men were killed on Thursday evening when a bakkie they were travelling in overturned, and collided with a tree along dirt road in Kuruman, Northern Cape, paramedics said.

Three other people who were travelling with the pair were also injured in the accident, ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said.

"It is understood that the driver apparently lost control on the dirt road, which resulted in the vehicle to overturn and collide into a tree before coming to rest in an open veld," he said.

The three were removed from inside the vehicle and treated on the scene before being transported to Kuruman Hospital.

The two men, who were believed to be in their 20s, were declared dead on the scene.
