Pietermaritzburg - Two men were handed life sentences for the multiple rapes of the same victim in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Wednesday

Each was convicted of the rape perpetrated by the other because they remained on the scene, kept watch and helped prevent her resistance and escape.

They are Sicelo Cyprian Ndlovu, 19, convicted of seven rapes, and Sanele Ngcobo, 23, convicted of five rapes.  Ngcobo left the scene of the rape. while Ndlovu continued.

They are from Camperdown, which is between Durban and Pietermaritzburg. Ndlovu was still at school and Ngcobo hoped to become a security guard like his elder brother.

The victim, aged 18, was grabbed while her boyfriend was taking her home at 03:30 in April 2014.  They dragged her into a bushy area to rape and rob her of her cellphone.

She was taken to a hospital in Durban. The doctor who treated her and recovered semen samples of the two accused from her, said she was not injured apart from bruising to her genital area.

Both accused were first offenders and came from disadvantaged homes.
