2013-01-06 22:27

Johannesburg - Two men were arrested in Kimberley on Sunday for possession of 39kg of dagga, Northern Cape police said.

Lieutenant Donald Mdhluli said the men, aged 52 and 24, were arrested after the police received a tip-off that two men were carrying dagga from the Free State.

He said the men were arrested at the Indian Centre in Kimberley on Sunday at 14:45.

"The estimated street value of this dagga is about R40 000."

The men are expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court soon on charges of possession of drugs, Mdhluli added.

The investigation continues.

Nu_un_clear.. My deductions is that they may have smoked it :p

      rude.awakning - 2013-01-07 07:07

the questions are: which race was the cops, and which political party do they have membership of! ............just kidding!

  • biltong.eldest - 2013-01-06 23:32

Is it marijuana or medical marijuana?

      rude.awakning - 2013-01-07 07:09

      naaaah! Just dagga!

      Tim - 2013-01-07 08:32

Can alcohol be outlawed as dagga is? How many people have die as the result of alcohol and families falling apart as the result of alcohol. Some are out of jobs as the results? How many stories have we heard that started in ther beer bars and tarven and end by the death of individuals as the result of alcohol. And yet i had never heard of someone who smoke dagga and kill someone because he had smoked it. It think we have illegalised something that is supposed to be legal and with beer or alcohol its vice versa. People die from taverns not while smoking. People think about this. Tell me if I am wrong. Plea dont get me wrong I neither drink nor smoke anything legal or illegal. This is just my observation. Its open to critics as well.

Dagga, when used on its own, does not cause a tendency towards violence. Not sure about mixing it though.

      Tim - 2013-01-07 08:39

+10 dude. No one ever died from smoking but there are several deaths every day caused by alcohol. Honestly half of the anti-weed community dont even know why they think its bad, and they only look at the cons.

  • tommo.too - 2013-01-07 00:08

Dagga. A potential export commodity to The Netherlands. Ships could dock in Port Elizabeth. Dagga ships....

  • suspekt33 - 2013-01-07 01:38

Sounds like crap weed to me, R40 000 for R39 kilos?

      gregory.jurgens - 2013-01-07 06:50

They calculate on R1 a gram. It's the old apartheid price.

      rude.awakning - 2013-01-07 07:02

      greg. Lol! Apartheid.....dagga? Nooit!

  • sanet.n.debeer - 2013-01-07 01:54

    Seker tarrie

  • rude.awakning - 2013-01-07 06:59

39kgs for R40 000? Must be the cost price. That stuff must be worth atleast four hundred thousand rand. Maybe the cops got high on the smell of the stash!

  • bone.marrow.501 - 2013-01-07 07:23

Why are we still arresting individuals for pot

  • stefan.kruger.1297 - 2013-01-07 07:57

So you locking people up for transporting nature... haha!! pathetic! Do you know, that some people USE it to help them, like this girl that lives in Johannesburg that stutters so much she cant raise her 2 little girls... She takes it because it makes her able to talk to her kids like a normal person and raise them they way they should be... Stop putting people in jail for nothing.. women and kids are being raped everyday... spend your time and money on finding the real criminals...

would like to advise all the critics to do in depth research into the advantages and disadvantages of weed, for my question to you is why in your mind is it not legal, the answer in short is because we have been conditioned to think so by the governments ,the problem with this is that it was a law enforced by the united states, cause some politician in the early 1900 hundreds said that weed causes white woman to sleep with ,and i quote "Negros" .He in turn ran for office and won,and implemented the law making it illegal, and the rest of the world followed, you see the benefits of cannabis are hidden from us,as the pharmaceutical giants don't wont it to be known, that cannabis can be used to cure many ailments, research and you will be surprised, being a slave to the system and not asking questions is foolish and narrow minded, so before you start following the masses, Question why? Oh and before you class me as a "pot head" trying to convince you that weed is good, know this , i am not one ,i have just questioned ,and found that not all that we know is good and true.

  • sattva.scrabbler - 2013-01-07 08:13

They should stop making such a fuss about dagga. The effects of alcohol are 10 times worse !

      mavee.vikter - 2013-01-07 09:10

      I couldn't agree more.

  • rollingstone.kanyane - 2013-01-07 08:48

the thing is people high on dagga try to runaway from your own shade the kind of phobia is tremendous

      nu_un_clear - 2013-01-07 12:46

Jeez, you should take "rollingstone" out of your tag.

  • zebedi.spring - 2013-01-07 09:04

Hmm, that works out to about a rand/gram of weed, 1980's prices. The cops need to review their valuing system, the last time I bought weed it was R5 a gram for kei weed and up to R50 a gram for prime skunk in Cape Town.

      joy.moloi.3 - 2013-01-07 09:32

Are you high right now ? Give me the address of your dealer

  • LanfearM - 2013-01-07 10:39

Enough already! Just legalise or decriminalise the good weed and free the police's attention for our more serious crime issues, i.e. rape and murder, even road deaths.

  • salvador - 2013-01-07 18:34

I don't imagine anyone has a gun put to their head forcing them to use drugs of any type. The man power used to police this could be used more effectively. Just don't allow the druggies to use their addiction as extenuating circumstances in any crimes. The underground are the only ones really getting rich. So sad
