Johannesburg - Two men have been arrested in connection with the hijacking of a truck transporting R1.5m worth of electrical goods in Lenasia, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department said.

Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said officers responded to a complaint at about 13:00 of a truck parked in Lenasia south that had raised suspicions.

On arrival they found about 10 people offloading boxes from the truck but when they saw the metro police they scattered.

Officers caught two and found that the truck had been hijacked in Heidelberg earlier in the day.

One of those caught was in possession of a firearm believed to have been used in the hijacking.

They will appear in the Heidelberg Magistrate's Court soon for truck hijacking, theft and being in possession of a stolen vehicle.
