Uitenhage - Two community rugby players have died and 13 more have been injured after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle.
The players from the Mighty Blues rugby club were travelling from Uitenhage towards Patterson on the R334.
Police spokesperson warrant officer Gerda Swart said the accident had occurred at around 14.20 on Saturday afternoon.
"Close to the Aalwynshoek abattoir turnoff the driver allegedly lost control over the vehicle and it over turned and rolled several metres," she said.
Swart said two occupants, aged 21 and 26, were fatally injured.
She said a further 13 passengers were admitted to various hospitals in Nelson Mandela Bay with injuries.
The road between Motherwell and Uitenhage was closed for several hours while emergency personnel attended to the scene.
Swart said the Uitenhage Saps will investigate a case of culpable homicide.
