Johannesburg - Two men were injured when their aeroplane crashed at the Springs Airfield on Saturday morning, paramedics said.

"Two men, believed to be in their 40s, were injured during a light aircraft accident at the Springs Airfield," said Netcare 911 spokesperson, Santi Steinmann.

"Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived on scene and found the crumpled remains of the aircraft laying next to the runway."

One man was critically injured while the other man's condition was serious. They were treated on the scene before being taken to hospital.

The details of the accident were unclear, she said. The Civil Aviation Authority would investigate the accident.
