Uncertainty over missing planes

2011-08-15 13:50

Johannesburg - Search and Rescue SA on Monday denied reports that the wreckage of two light aircraft that went missing in George's Valley, Limpopo has been found.

"The search is still on," said spokesperson Johnny Smit.

"The weather is getting better so air rescue will resume shortly."

SABC radio news earlier reported that the wreckage had been found.

"I'm getting breaking news right now that they have found the wreckage and there's a suggestion there may have been a mid air collision at this stage," SA Flyer magazine editor Guy Leitch told the broadcaster.

The Albatross planes, carrying six people each, were presumed to be in the George's Valley area, between Polokwane and Tzaneen.

      narike.lintvelt - 2011-08-15 14:45

Did you all fail Comprehension at school? SA Flyer magazine editor Guy Leitch gave the info to SABC.

decide now, was it or wasn't it found, news reporting is not guess work it supposed to be factual

  • Tdo - 2011-08-15 14:06

Stop playing with our emotions, we hope they are fine eish

  • estee.mente - 2011-08-15 14:08

Honestly, i think they found the planes, but were unhappy with the way this was communicated to the public, i.e. it was not from an authorized official ...but that's just me

      roboman1 - 2011-08-15 16:43

      I think you right

  • hanli.booysen - 2011-08-15 14:09

Please Check the facts.NO WRECKAGE FOUND!!!!If you are to lazy to go and find the facts don't quote fellow aviators from a website! The family's and friends are devastated.Have some respect and get the facts straight.

  • rbotha - 2011-08-15 14:10

WTF news24!!!!!! 10 minutes ago you stated the planes were found and the crash probably was due a mid air collision!! Did they find it or not! but then again.. news reporting these days does not have to be factual ...

  • Jason V - 2011-08-15 14:11

Media always finds the missing planes before the search and rescue teams do...maybe they in the wrong job?

  • Scotsman - 2011-08-15 14:11

We are still a Gung-Ho population. If the weather is bad,why not find another way to get home safely. We will probably find that half those on board are kids. Its not fair that they should perish because their fathers think "I can make it!!"

      hanli.booysen - 2011-08-15 14:38

If you don't know anything about the subject you should rather shut up!!

  • Fedup - 2011-08-15 14:18

N24 get your facts straight before you send out any other stories, do you know what your doing to the family and friends of the missing???

  • Lee - 2011-08-15 14:18

Wow. What a stuff up. I hope you guys at news24 are learning from this mess you have got yourself into? You cannot get your "news" off a random aviation website. It's not the view of the website - it's maybe the "skinner" from a single uninformed user that you are publishing as news!! Wake up guys. Make up some "rules for reporting" and try to stick to them. Jeez - your reporting makes the info bill a necessity!

  • Rudie - 2011-08-15 14:21

Are we there yet?Are we there yet?Are we there yet? WTF???

      Lee - 2011-08-15 14:23

      Rudi - I don't follow you - please explain.

  • rushi.nortje - 2011-08-15 14:36

The planes haven't been found... God please be with them! Don't they have some sort of gps tracking systems in the planes..?

      Lee - 2011-08-15 14:45

Big commercial jets have locator beacons on their data recorders. Small private aircraft can carry locator beacons but in this case obviously not.

  • Komasa - 2011-08-15 14:42

Which SABC radio news there are 17 different radio stations and it definitely was not Safm. Desk bound journalism, all have to be the FIRST with the news and the SABC is any easy scapegoat for you.

  • Dan - 2011-08-15 15:02

Shouldn't a reporter at least check his/her sources? I am so damn confused now. Found or not found?

  • Mariette Kraus - 2011-08-15 15:45

Sad that ppl would create a rumor saying the plans have been found!!

  • woody007 - 2011-08-15 16:55

have these 2 planes been found or not..sitting in suspence!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Pete - 2011-08-15 18:50

As usual, a bunch of uneducated journalists are just saying stuff without confirming anything..... So typical! They have no thoughts for the immediate family of the people on the aircraft! Makes me so angry!!!!!
