Johannesburg - Two vehicle accidents in the Vaal have left one person killed and another three injured on Friday evening, Gauteng paramedics said.

A man in his late 40's was flung off his motorcycle while travelling on Langrand street in Vereeniging.

"The motorcyclist allegedly crashed into the back of a truck which left him with extensive injuries," said ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson.

Paramedics found the man laying on the road. He was rushed to hospital where he later died.

The truck the motorcyclist allegedly crashed into was no longer on the scene when paramedics arrived.

Police are investigating the accident.

The second accident took place after 19:00 on Frikkie Meyer boulevard in Vanderbijlpark.

A young couple were driving on the road in an Opel Corsa when they saw what seemed to be a large box sitting in the road, Jackson said.

"The patients explained to the treating paramedics that they actually turned around to try and quickly remove the box from the middle of the road for fear of someone else hitting it and getting injured," Jackson said.

The couple stopped their car in the road and the man stepped in front of the vehicle to move the box.

"As he was standing in front of the car, another vehicle collided with the Corsa from behind. The man was then knocked down by his own vehicle which had been bumped forward," Jackson said.

The man suffered only broken ribs and other moderate injuries.

His wife, who was five-weeks pregnant and sitting in the car, suffered a broken arm.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the Corsa also suffered moderate injuries.

All three were taken to hospital.
