Vavi stops tweeting

2012-05-04 16:06

Cape Town - Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi has announced he will be leaving the social networking site Twitter.

Vavi, who joined Twitter on 22 January 2012 and uses the name @Zwelinzima1, is seen as one of the more prolific South Africans on Twitter.  He recently revealed his salary after he came under fire from users on the network.

He announced his retreat from the network with the following tweets:

@Zwelinzima1: Tweets exposes one to the most decent fellows of all races & classes but it also expose one to the worse SA can offer. Good bye for now.

@Zwelinzima1: It's been great experience to tweet & share my opinions & why we think and behave in certain patterns. I have decided to discontinue.

He did however tweet twice after announcement, both times with stats on income inequality in South Africa.

      Christof - 2012-05-05 13:05

I fully agree, some good people on the Net, but also a lot of rubbish that can't reason with savvy and can ruin one's reputation for no reason.

  • sipho.mbulawa - 2012-05-04 16:33

News24 why don't you reveal his stats tweets?!? They interesting and I bet your readers would have something to talk about. Maybe I am a bit naïve but I see this as being selective journalism.

      sipho.mbulawa - 2012-05-04 16:59

If they saw this as news worthy then adding the statistics he tweeted would also be news worthy. In my opinion they are.

  • Jean - 2012-05-04 16:36

    Is this news worthy?!

      steve.dupreez - 2012-05-04 16:53

Must be news worthy because you read it

      Jean - 2012-05-05 14:35

So when one reads it, it is automatically news worthy?!

  • George - 2012-05-04 16:38

We need to call a strike; mass action, until the comrade reconsiders his ill-advised move. Twitter needs Vavi, Viva, Viva

  • arne.verhoef - 2012-05-04 16:48
