Veterans take aim at Malema over Guptas

2011-03-03 14:15

Johannesburg - The Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans' Association (MKMVA) has accused ANC Youth League president Julius Malema and "faceless" ministers of making "irresponsible allegations" about President Jacob Zuma's relationship with the wealthy Gupta family.

"MK Military Veterans' Association noted with grave concern the allegations being peddled by certain media houses with the help of faceless government ministers, senior ANC officials and particularly the ANCYL president [Julius Malema] implying that the Gupta family wields undue influence on President Jacob Zuma," said MKMVA national chairperson Kebby Maphatsoe.

Speaking at a press conference in Johannesburg on Thursday, he said the MKMVA viewed the allegations as a pattern which had been unfolding since just after the ANC national conference in Polokwane in 2007.

Maphatsoe said those making the allegations had an agenda against the leadership of the ANC with an eye for "positioning themselves" for the party's 2012 national conference.

"We view the populist outburst of Julius Malema on this issue as irresponsible rambling meant to score cheap points against President Zuma at the expense of the ANC."

He said the association had met the Gupta family for five hours on Monday about the allegations.

"After their explanation we were satisfied that there was nothing wrong with what they had done," Maphatsoe said.

I like this infighting amongst the comrades, and this before elections,The cracks are becoming wider by the day in the ANC ,

      lldoidge - 2011-03-03 14:25

No Alwyn, they'll pollifill the cracks just before the elections. Not to say the pollifill won't fall out after the elections as anything they touch turns to shit!

      Paul - 2011-03-03 15:36

The FF+ would like to encourage Malema to open his mouth more. To the Vets, Viva. To Cosatu Ayoba. Now get your machini wamis and sort this out African Style, we will pay 30% more vat for the bullets required, so long as you promise to aim for the head and shoot straight.

the "Veterans" take on the "Youth League" - Brilliant. It's like Dad's Army, but with idiots.

      benjvanniekerk - 2011-03-03 15:38

In 10 years, Malema is also a veteran, a new one is already being trained to take his place.

  • MaLemmer - 2011-03-03 14:23

Veterans? Never saw them in a punch-up!

      Ozymandios - 2011-03-03 15:26

yes I am always intrigued at this vetrans story. What are they vetrans of? Sitting somewhere in Tanzania and running around playing 'Graspolindieholdol' and never once did they take us on on the battlefiled. They whacked a few soft targets like Nedbank in Pretoria but did they have the guts to fight us Whiteys? Not at all. And when they got whacked in Botswana a few times they cried they were refugees and not vetrans. It amazes me as to what constitutes a "Vetran" on a military basis for this Umkhonto wankers.

  • lldoidge - 2011-03-03 14:24

  • Beam me up - 2011-03-03 14:27

What a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceive. The noose is getting tighter for Malema.

  • CATSHEAD - 2011-03-03 14:27

A 5 hour meeting with the Guptas to finally agree "there is nothing wrong"?? Poor Gupta family - I wonder how much they had to pay each member of the visiting delegation. Africa is not for sissies.

  • chris.nong - 2011-03-03 14:30

mkmva don't know what they are talking about, Mr Malema never said anything about Jacob Zuma, he just said democracy must not benefit friends of the few!!!

Amakrokokroko vs Woodworkers. Would have been funny if it wasnt so sad. To everybody that thinks the Party is splitting, these guys are brilliant with having different factions saying different things, thus everyone is happy.

      Phlegm - 2011-03-03 15:56

Absolutely right, the ANC has so many different "faces" you can find one that suits, be it communism, capitalism, nationalism, rasicm, nepotism, malemanism, zumaism, winnie the poopooism, there is a segment of the party you can support, either which way you still vote ANC!

  • Alwyn - 2011-03-03 14:31

Wide cracks can not be filled up,this time the wall around the ANC elite will tumble down

  • Superdude - 2011-03-03 14:32

  • simcard1506 - 2011-03-03 14:34

Election conspiracy ploy by the ANC...dont get fooled.....get some1 to say something bad...then some1 else takes that person u satisfy both sides...and win the votes of both the radical and liberals.....sound fimilar....Malema vs MK...Manyi vs Manual....SAPS vs Public Protector...JHB Mayor vs Minister of Governance.....Minister of Transport vs GP premier......Minister of Finance vs Cosatu....common...let us add to this list.....

  • terry - 2011-03-03 14:34

I wish that all of those mindless people who get their free ANC T-shirt and braai-pack just before elections, and then go and vote for the ANC because the 'ANC looks after them' - could be made aware of all of this bitter rivalry, infighting, and jockying for position within the ANC hierarchy. There is only one reason for all of this jockying for position - each one of those 'ANC Elite' are concerned only about getting the best position for themselves and their buddies, so that they can use this position for their own power, wealth, and glory. Once elected, they have absolutely no interest in the masses who voted them into their position. Why are these voters so stupid that they can't work this out ..... Oh yes! The ANC keep them that way through the worst performing education system in Africa, because it suits them.

      Ross - 2011-03-03 14:55

Terry, These people believe that their voting record can be checked on and as such vote ANC for fear of losing their government allowance. Due to government incompetence the masses are unemployed and stinking poor. One cannot imagine what a corrugated iron shack feels like in the middle of summer or winter. These people are ready for mobilisation and Egypt style terror.

  • MortNews - 2011-03-03 14:37

One of the biggest concerns about all facets and factions of the ANC, be it youth, veterans or top leadership, is the consistent lack of intellectual reasoning. We are truly being led into chaos by some of the dumbest, most incompetent and least honest politicians on the planet. And that's saying something. Furthermore, if anyone believes that the Gupta's have not leveraged their relationship with Jacob Zuma, then they probably also believe that Zuma did not take money from Schabir Shaik. One also wonders what it cost the Guptas to persuade the veterans of their benevolence?

      Shistirrer - 2011-03-03 14:43

It's like this all over the world, South Africa is not unique. People with brains and a good work ethic, go into business. Those who are dumb and greedy, but with connections, go into politics. That's why the world is in such a mess.

      Mr Hobbit - 2011-03-03 14:59

Yup, that sums it up in a nutshell. If there were Gold Medals for "the dumbest, most incompetent and least honest politicians on the planet" our politicos would get Platinum Medals.

  • Alwyn - 2011-03-03 14:39

The crack is to wide to be filled, the people in this country had enough of retards running the show, this time the election will not be a sure thing for the African Nepotism Corrupt Party

  • youcantrunyoucanthide - 2011-03-03 14:39

Smokescreen and diversionary tactics, people. Before every election the ANC let's everyone believe the party is "splitting at the seems". It means nothing. At the end of the day, the unions will still give their vote to the ANC, and the ANC will win the elections. This is typical bargaining tactics from ANC members to secure contracts and positions (vote-peddling, essentially).

  • MadMatt_88 - 2011-03-03 14:42

Veterans of what?????????? MK was the most ineffective terrorist bunch ever. I think the Welsh Separatist Army has had more military victories than MK did.

      MortNews - 2011-03-03 14:45

Absolutely correct! MK must surely rank as one of the worst armed forces of all time. They played a negligible role in the ultimate liberation of South Africa. Azapo were more of a concern from a military standpoint.

      Paul - 2011-03-03 15:45

I especially liked the story of the MK vets looking down the back of the rocket launcher to see where the missile would hit. Apparently black people get really sunburnt when 2000 C rocket fuel fire hits them in the face.

@THE GUPTAS Can the Guptas please leave our shores, As there is a destinct difference between a "MUMBAI CURRY" And a "DURBAN CURRY" We SA citizens prefer the latter as it is 100% South African. So can the veterans please keep quiet,as your funeral plan is about to kick in.To the Guptas, before you leave our shores: As a token for GOING,we have a present for you it goes by the name DUDUZANE.

      Ozymandios - 2011-03-03 15:33

Sorry Alwyn those idiots couldn't hit a barn door at two paces. Not likely to hit Malema at 1 pace.

  • Jeremy - 2011-03-03 15:22

Since Malema can sing struggle songs about shooting boers, I hereby announce that I am struggling with His and the ANC's stupidity - THEREFORE! I have started singing MY struggle song, and it goes like this: EMA KALEMA! Gaan skiet maar vir Malema! Malema wil n kop skoot he!... Right now Im just repeating this as I cant seem to go further - any additional help will be appreciated :P

The MKMVA must just go to old age home, all of them they are easily cheated ! Indians will sell you something that cost R10 with R1000 even worst if you are old as the verterans HAMBANI NIGODUKE BO TATA NALUPHELE ANIZIBONI?

      Chris - 2011-03-03 16:29

i don't care if they cheat me like is far easier to deal with than to loose a family or friend by some ethnic group that are fearless & souless and don't see it wrong in killing someone for 10c. See how many times Indian people get "head lines" in our that with any other race.

  • clifford.pike1 - 2011-03-03 15:47

Woah, there, everyone! Until there is a "suitable" replacement party, the ANC will remain the party of choice for the people of this country. I'm not talking about the small slice of the pie chart, with PCs and Internet, I'm talking about the "Pac Man" part of the pie chart - without food in their cupboard and no car. These are the voters who make up the 80% winning margin for the ANC in every province but one. We may intellectualise and revel in the ANC's come-uppance, but the relevance of such debates are limited to these forums, around the braai and / or coffee table at home. The ANC will continue; only the faces and names will change. The masses of this country are not ready to turn their backs on their liberation party. Heck, Liverpool fans still support their club after 20 years without a league title. That's a football club. Now imagine the political fervour the ANC supporters feel for their party... Coffee, anyone? :)

      Paul - 2011-03-03 15:54

What about option C) - No party. Gov does f all for me, why do I need them? I would rather 100 000 like minded people get together, on our own land and rule ourselves as we see fit. Give us the Transkei or some or other homeland - I will be as happy as Malema in a barrel kak.
