Western Cape probes school sex video

2013-03-05 10:44

Cape Town - The Western Cape education department is investigating video footage of two pupils having sex in the back of a classroom, it was reported on Tuesday.

The video clip was handed to The Daily Voice newspaper by a concerned parent who found the footage on her nephew's cellphone.

He reportedly told her that it was sent to him by a friend at a different school.

The newspaper reported that the footage, which is more than a minute long, showed a boy and girl in their early teens, having sex while a third person recorded the act.

The boy was seen sitting on a chair with the girl on his lap. Both were in school uniform.

According to the report, he was seen smiling and showing gang signs to the camera. At the end of the clip, the girl looked up, realised she was being filmed and hid her face in embarrassment.

"We are deeply concerned about this case and are investigating it as a matter of urgency," Bronagh Casey, spokesperson for education MEC Donald Grant, told the newspaper.

"We were not aware of its [the video's] existence and are trying to ascertain the location of the school."

All the more reason for condoms to be available at school

      Christiana Vespucci - 2013-03-05 11:44

No way. I think it's the children that's failin themselves. Scholars needs to ask themselves these questions. Are we going to school to learn, get and education, and to help us become successful. Or, are we goig to school, to escape "life" at home? If that's the case. Than they might as well just dodge school. And not waste their teachers time or their parents money.

      Badger - 2013-03-05 11:45

Well Poloy, the madam is locking up scumbags like you and picking up all your trash you throw on the streets. And when she is not doing that, she is repairing everything else you are f*****g UP. Now Sit Down.

      Claire Lipskey - 2013-03-05 12:54

@ solomontja.. You can see you not a parent and if you are, are you one of those that runs away from their responsibility. The parents are the first to blame, yes kids experiment, but where do they learn self-control, self-preservation, self-esteem. NOT AT SCHOOL AT HOME. IT IS THE PARENTS RESPONSIBILITY TO TEACH THEM THE MORALS, EMPATHY AND ETHICS.

Exactly Simphiwe, well said! Since when is it government's job to raise other people's children? If they are taught how to behave at home then we won't have these problems. The parents and the children have the responsibility here. Government can't do everything for you.

  • nawhal.majietarmien - 2013-03-05 11:32

I have to agree with some of these comments, what kind of parent act so irresponsibly, by sending a video to the voice, why not take it to the school in question and protect the kids, the fact that they having sex already needs to be addressed, and the girl didn't know she was being filmed( she could have been drugged) the public display in itself is worrisome, the school and Dept need to nip this in the butt, but the again the school hands out condoms don't they?

These things happens around the world in the Uk,US,China and Nigeria what's new.....but it must not be allowed in classrooms they are for learning not porn studios, they should do it after school at their parents houses...and again this calls for the government to speed up the supply of condoms in school.

South Africa wake up....its not the 60's anymore...these children are sexualy active....we must stand up and say we know you doing it, but you must condomise to prevent HIV infection and unwanted pregnancy...

"It's not the 60s any more"? What's that supposed to mean! But it's true ... in the 60s you did not have HIV/AIDS, there was almost no teen pregnancy and abortion ... wow, maybe we should be asking ourselves, why aren't we more like the 60s in this regard?? :)

  • huda.saint - 2013-03-05 12:15

Well the government is issuing free condoms to the school, it is also now acceptable for kids from the age of 12 to have sex in this country, so i dont see y the department of education should be deeply concerned when sex amongst kids is promoted.

  • Billy Baker - 2013-03-05 12:17

As our country embraces ungodliness and idolises its enlightened constitution so GOD laughs at us handing us over to worse sin and violence. The adults and especially a sleeping Church are to blame. We must vote for Christian leaders and that does not include Helen Zille and her humanistic DA!

  • Jodee Pam - 2013-03-05 12:23

'Popular culture' is raising our children.Parents are constantly undermined and upstaged by the likes of Rihanna, Lady GAGA and the Kardashians? Rihanna says "girls who havent sent naked pics to their boyfriends are lame!" The same idiot who was beaten up by her boyfriend and then forgave him.The Kardashians are famously wealthy and popular for doing absolutely nothing worthwhile.Lady Gaga, poor thing, is dillusional-but yet is named by businessmen in suits with degrees, as the 5th most influential person on the planet(edged into 5th place by people such as the American president and the pope). What chance do we stand against these ICONS that the media have created? Their disgraceful behaviour and lack of moral code is constantly rammed down the throats of our kids.Every idiotic utterance is hailed as gospel and their stupidity is broadcast far and wide for all and sundry to see. While there is money to be made off the backs of these fools, nothing in our world will change. It's us "lame, backward people" who will have to find a way to get over it!

  • Man Zanilla - 2013-03-05 12:43

Hello Africa tell me you you're doin'...... Hello Motherland! Tell me how you're doin'

  • Piet_Hannibol - 2013-03-05 12:50

Nope. It is us. We are responsible for the values and morals our children live by. And by this I mean Parents, teachers, elders, uncles, aunties... The guys who helped to raise these kids are doing a crappy job. If you delve further you might find that the biggest problem the parents have is their culture - which is in a person's power to change. You can't expect the children to help themselves and their parents fight to adopt a more civilized culture. But big adult people CAN change this - they are just too lazy, stupid or sometimes just content with what they have and their kids and their kids in turn will still live with these moral values. Not to mention the other stuff going hand in hand with poor moral values like poverty, joblessness, rape, child abuse, drug abuse......

  • flynn.govender - 2013-03-05 12:54

Modern technology, since it's introduction, it became handy for a man in the street (including kids) If used for the wrong purposes, the impact becomes worse. I blame the abuse of technology, in this matter. If only there was effective control on the use of modern technology, we would have such occurences. Shame to the poor parents (as I'm a parent, myself) they send their children to school and learn, so that they, become responsible people in future. They don't expect this embarassment. Oh! Lord, have mercy on us

      Makgabo Jane Masehela - 2013-03-05 14:17

I fully agree with you my friend, we are leaving in this invironment where we don't know our kids anymore, the so called technology is really destroying our kids 's future, am not against it but the overdoing is just making me worried. As a concerned parent i ask myself where do we go as a nation. Am so disgusted.

      Annemarie White - 2013-03-05 16:33

We, as parents try our best. We lay the foundation, show by example. Then-they go to school. Other children enter their space. Children with a different upbringing, culture and social society. From then on, we still teach, are still setting the example. And we start praying that this is enough.

What does that say for the girl, she has just shown all the boys how easy and available she is, does prostitute come to mind. Where was the teacher, I hope their families see the video. Absolutely disgusting. Seems like they like an audiance, maybe better suited to making porno movies than getting a good education.

  • Kevinwilliams - 2013-03-05 16:20

This behavour starts right from home. First, parents need to return to "Parenthood". It does not matter what kids do, if they are brought up properly, they would not behave like this. 2] Parents need to live like parents. If you decided to have sex, you should be big enough to take the responsibility that comes with it. 3] Way to many parents, act as though they are still children themselves. 4] With what we have in this country, we need to urgently get Jesus preached, for He is still the Only way". 5] When children brings children in this world, this is what happens. Unresponsible parenthood. Fathers need to owe up to their responsibility of fatherhood. How many men is walking out there with children they don't care a damn about. Women need to learn how to be Ladies again. We are in a sick cycle of trauma, neglect, mistrust, and abuse. We need to stand up and bring back "The family" otherwise we are all fools. For the family is the back-bone of the community. People think it easy to stay together without the real need to commit. An evil from Hell itself. How can women even think that when they give their viginity away, a man is going to love them for them. It just does not work that way, and never will. When we bring children into a mis-formed family environment, this is what happens. The gov did not help, in taking prayer and the rod out of school. And we expect the kids to behave ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Not in any situation where the rod is spared, you will find discipline.

      terrence.andrew - 2013-03-05 20:31

Sorry mate. As soon as I saw "get Jesus preached" you lost me. We just need parents to behave as parents and to teach their children basic human values. And you don't need Jesus for that. Teachers, the government,, etc, are not responsible - it's the parents.

  • Colleen Erasmus - 2013-03-05 16:55

It pains me to see children/teens acting like adults. They have lost the childhood, why, because they are introduced and exposed to things like sex. I don't believe that a child needs to be exposed to that kind of behaviour. Sex is something God created, for marriage and I stand on that and that is why we have such a immoral world. If there are kids in the house that's should be kept behind closed doors away from prowling eyes. The movies, the music we listen to is all sexually based, so wrong! The word of God says that if you look @ a women in the wrong way, you have lusted after her and there is a very strong warning, that if you are caught o be sexually immoral, you cannot enter into the kindom of heaven, Why did God destroy Sodom and Gammorah because of there sexual immorality. Already our goverment hjas failed by going against the Word of God by allowing young girls of 12 to go on the pill, have abortions without parental control! And they call themselves a christian goverment and we are supposed to be a christian country but nowhere are we upholding any Christian principles. A Christian who is someone who is living and breathing the Word og God, has an encounter with God, where His spirit dwells in you because it is that Spirit that will show you all things, teach you all things, rebuke and equip you. We have long forgotten the principles this country was founded on. How can God bless Africa if we have forgotten Him! I know I am going to take a lot of flack for this but I will be straight! You see we cannot expect God to pour out blessings if we are denying Him, God. I don't care what you going to think of me, but I will stand for what is morally right in Gods eyes not mans eyes! Going to church on a Sunday does not make you a christian and it does not earn you favour with God, He is looking for a people set apart unto Him, righteous and pure in heart, people who will walk with Him intimately and will obey His Word! If goverment is not inline with Gods Word then I must obey Gods Word, but I must still honour them. They will be answerable to God oneday! For the wages of sin is death (eternal seoeration from God)...that's Gods command! God is pure, righteous and Holy and will not tolerate any form if disobedience to His Word! What values are we teaching our kids? Moral decline or one that is going to get them somewhere?
