Johannesburg - A man suspected of involvement in several robberies and ATM attacks in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, was shot dead in Kagiso, west of Johannesburg, police said on Thursday.

Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said in a statement police received information that the man had been hiding at a hostel named Madala in Kagiso.

When officers arrived at the hostel, he jumped out of a back window and tried to run away. Police chased him.

The man shot at police when he realised he was being cornered. Police returned fire, "wounding him to the lower right back", Sibiya said.

"The suspect still managed to run a few metres from the scene through some passages at Sinqobile township that is next to Madala hostel.

"Police gave chase and later found the suspect lying on the ground facing up. He was certified dead on the scene," Sibiya said.

The man was not identified in the statement.

Golden Miles Budhu is upset. He feels that the police are unfairly targeting criminals, bombers and murderers. "They could be put to better use, like testing office chairs, etc... " said Miles.

Excellent, another Darwin candidate out of action. And the best is he can not breed and put more of his kind into this world.
