Durban - A man wanted for a string of crimes was shot dead by police in the Sonkontshe area in Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Thursday.

Colonel Vincent Mdunge said police went to look for Zama Vilakazi on Wednesday as he was wanted for more than 20 crimes, including murder, business robbery, housebreaking and attempted murder.

"Members trying to locate the suspect's house spotted him with two unknown men."

Police approached the three men and confronted them.

Two of the men fled, while Vilakazi drew a firearm and fired shots at police. Police returned fire, and Vilakazi was shot.

An unlicensed firearm was found on the scene.

Well done cops. Pity it wasn't sooner and I hope his death wasn't quick.

Yes this is how these criminals need to be treated. The Courts are too lenient to criminals. I'm not sure if you guys know that when a person is setenced to 10 years imprisonment, that person stays only 5 years for good behaviour(mind you, 'good behaviour' is based on the last 5 months of half the sentence). So the police just take a illegal firearm, shoot these bastartds and place the firearm in his hand.
