Waterkloof 2 parole board suspended

2012-03-13 16:02

Johannesburg - The parole board of Zonderwater Prison has been suspended with immediate effect, the department of correctional services said on Tuesday.

"The suspensions relate to the ongoing internal investigations over the erroneous recommendation by the Zonderwater correctional supervision and parole board to convert the custodial sentences of convicted murderers Reinach Tiedt and Gert van Schalkwyk to correctional supervision," said spokesperson Phumlani Ximiya in a statement.

Tiedt and Van Schalkwyk were two of the so-called "Waterkloof Four", convicted of killing a homeless man in a park in Pretoria in 2001. They left Zonderwater Prison on December 16 2011, three years into their 12-year sentence.

The same sentences meted out to their co-accused, Christoff Becker and Frikkie du Preez, were not commuted.

Ximiya said the chairs of the Zonderwater medium A and B case management committees had also been placed on immediate suspension.

"Once the investigation has been concluded the department of correctional services will make a determination as to whether to proceed with a full disciplinary process against officials implicated in the matter," said Ximiya.

That's great, now suspend the fools that freed Shaik, starting with the president.

      Jako - 2012-03-13 16:20

      my thoughts exactly

      Jimmy - 2012-03-13 16:21

      JohhnyBGood - 2012-03-13 16:27

Give that man a Bells !(Not the El Presidente, you will be in big trouble, like Daryl Peense)

      Hallo - 2012-03-13 16:31

Yeah, although Shaik didn't beat a homeless person to a bloody pulp. Bloodless actually as his body had bled out.

      Fanie - 2012-03-13 18:11

How do these things become black and white. Stay on the subject. Get these murderous back in jail first. They killed a human being.

      RealNikka - 2012-03-13 18:41

      Putin the " - 2012-03-13 20:36

  • Hallo - 2012-03-13 16:14

Next step - rearrest those scum! They should be rotting in jail!

      Marc - 2012-03-13 16:22

You rot and stink naturally - you don't need a jail for that!

      Hallo - 2012-03-13 16:26

      Great argument Marc.

      Skuiter - 2012-03-13 16:31

next step, fire the entire government, and throw shaik and mcbride in jail. double standard much?

      Kala - 2012-03-13 16:33

True Marc but those two may as well do their rotting in jail

      bluzulu - 2012-03-13 17:24

Marcy gonna give yourself a stroke....calm down . It ain't all bad, you got your hat ,mate.

      Schmee - 2012-03-14 08:09

@Marc, you have more water on the outside which makes us rot and stink a little slower. :D

  • Kala - 2012-03-13 16:15

The Boswell Circus has nothing on the ANC Circus.

  • Heiku - 2012-03-13 16:20

Why internal investigation? Is what they did not a criminal offense?

      Christian J Denyschen - 2012-03-13 16:31

      And what did they do?

      Heiku - 2012-03-13 16:35

Let murderers out of jail? Am I missing something here?!

      Christian J Denyschen - 2012-03-13 17:29

I agree with that but what law was broke that makes it a criminal offense?

      Heiku - 2012-03-13 17:32

I dont know! That is why I ended that question with a question mark!

      Christian J Denyschen - 2012-03-13 17:59

sounded like it was applied, but ok lets not jump the gun here we have no facts on what they did here. what if no law was broke and they just did their job, now they've been suspended for what because politics got involved in the case ?

      Christian J Denyschen - 2012-03-13 18:09

      Lol implied:)

  • John - 2012-03-13 16:30

They should have just let them 'escape' like they do with other prisoners. Those involved with an escape always seem to walk away with no re-course

      bluzulu - 2012-03-13 17:15

So you are happy for these criminals to have escaped and living freely. At your age surely you have a better handle on justice.

      bluzulu - 2012-03-13 17:17

Who exactly should have let them escape and why do you think the Laws of RSA don't apply to these citizens?

  • Born - 2012-03-13 16:35

suspending them is an indication that they have erred in their decision, now reverse the decision and let those murderers go back to jail and serve the rest of their for the parole comitee members they should be fired because of the incompetence they have is clear that their headspaces are empty.

      Heiku - 2012-03-13 16:42

Letting murderers out of jail before they have served their sentence should carry a bigger penalty than being fired from your position, don't you think?

      Heiku - 2012-03-13 16:43

And also you have to look at why they would do that. I'm sure it's not because they are incompetent. They we're probably bribed by the spoilt brats parents.

      Hallo - 2012-03-13 16:48

@Heiku - No doubt their parents paid someone off.

  • Julie - 2012-03-13 16:40

    Suspended with full pay......very nice!

  • francois.delange - 2012-03-13 16:42

It is because they made a decision that affected white people, if it was Schabir Schaik they would have gotten bonuses.

      Hallo - 2012-03-13 16:49

No, it affected murderers who should still be sitting in jail.

      bluzulu - 2012-03-13 17:05

Here we go with the FACISM again, Francois, Here's a clue mate. Just treat as criminals forget about the colour. If you really want to colour this issue, think of them as BLUE SMURFS

      Born - 2012-03-13 17:08

Francois this is a matter of principle,it has nothing to do with race.the merits of shabir case is totally diffent from this one.mayb we shud ask when is the prison is allowed to be realesed on parole?playing race card is very disingenuous.

  • Hendrik - 2012-03-13 16:47

Wonder if the real story behind this story will ever be revealed. Seemed rather "fishy" from the time they were suddenly released and the other two not. (All 4 should have "sat" for their full time.) Someone somewhere made someone else a fairly rich person to pull these strings. Perhaps ALL involved can be jailed together to "have a go" at each other.

      Martin - 2012-03-13 17:35

      yeah like the Gran.

  • Sean - 2012-03-13 16:49

The ANC should just open a circus. The clowns we got running this country now are a laugh a minute....

  • bluzulu - 2012-03-13 16:55

    Finally JUSTICE for the victim,

      Skuiter - 2012-03-14 08:18

he's dead...wont matter either way for him

  • Shirley - 2012-03-13 16:56

Can everyone be tarred with the same brush in this country please!!!! Scheik is released and NOTHING comes of it,Yengeni violates his already suspicious parole-again nothing done. However because these murderers happen to be of another colour it seems all hell has broken loose. I in no way, shape or form think that they deserved this parole BUT you cannot have different rules for people who are not in the company of powerful people!!!! Some answers Mr President please!!!!!

      bluzulu - 2012-03-13 17:36

Shirley Shirley, take off those Pink shades and you will find other colours exist in the Rainbow. Sadly your spawn is probably gonna be tainted by those same shades.

      bluzulu - 2012-03-13 20:16

I have been back in AKL since Jan 2011, Thanks. Enjoying life for what it should be and away from Fascist such as yourself. I googled this Sheik character and He didn't Murder any one in cold blood. Weak characters ,I can live with ,I draw the line at Violent crime such as Murderers,.

  • blaqmonk - 2012-03-13 17:03

I dnt care that the ppl who were freed are white or yellow or pitch black, they murdered somebody and these idiots released them, they should be fired. can we stop politisizing and racializing every situation and punish incompetence and not defend it? Please? Yes, No? Maybe? ok i'm moving to Australia

      Heiku - 2012-03-13 17:11

Enjoy being raped by sheep! ... That's the thing right? I dunno something about sheep... enjoy that!

      bluzulu - 2012-03-13 17:42

After 13 years in NZ I returned to RSA for 7 months. I now call Auckland home again. I have no issues with any culture however the fascism proudly displayed by some people is disgraceful. How do you bring up your kids with the right values and morals in that environment.

      Shirley - 2012-03-13 18:13

Bye bye-when you get there remove the blinkers!

  • bluzulu - 2012-03-13 17:32

Name and shame these committee members...disgraceful

      Shirley - 2012-03-13 18:17

Also name and shame the ones who so eagerly and quietly released schaik. You cannot have double standards. When the prisons contested this parole they were told they do not have the power to do so! So somewhere along the line there is no communication or guidelines-everyone does as they please! As for my pink shades-if you can in all honesty say their is no bias in this then you are a liar. They should never have been released full stop, however there should only be one set of rules-not one for each shade in the rainbow!

  • Tanie - 2012-03-13 20:01

Suspend those panties and jail them in the same zonder water besides the waterkloof two.GAAT.

  • markus.botha - 2012-03-14 08:41

It was something the Waterkloof 2 did. It isn't who they are. They won't be a menace to society anymore. They have learnt their lesson. Let them be.

  • emma.barrycox - 2012-03-14 12:54
