Johannesburg – The South African Communist Party (SACP) in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday told the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) that it did not have time to engage in factional and childish politics.

In a statement issued by provincial secretary Themba Mthembu, the party also accused the ANCYL in KwaZulu-Natal of behaving like a monarchy.

Responding to several allegations made by the provincial ANCYL on Monday, Mthembu went on to say that, contrary to what the ANCYL believed, the SACP added value to the ANC.

"The SACP in the Moses Mabhida region was not shocked to read... the utterances of the ANCYL in their media briefing, but we were surprised at the depth of anti-communist stance... demonstrated by the ANCYL leadership clique," Mthembu said.

On the ANCYL's remarks that the SACP added no value to the ANC, Mthembu said: "[This] is not surprising, taking into account that the ANCYL leadership clique is still young and new in the ANC itself and the congress movement as a whole.

"As the SACP, we are forced to conclude that the KZN ANCYL leadership clique is defining itself outside the broader congress movement and there is also an element of kingdom mentality.

"The importance and relevance of the alliance of the SACP and the ANC is confirmed by all except the KZN ANCYL leadership clique that seems to be introducing a new and foreign culture in the alliance."

Mthembu said the problem with the ANCYL in KwaZulu-Natal was that it defined itself outside of the mother body.

"They alleged that we need to engage with them politically. How can we engage them when they defy their own principals?

"That is why we agree with the [statement of the ] national office of the party, which states that it does not have time to engage in factional and childish politics,"said Mthembu.
