Johannesburg - Two men who allegedly beat another man to death while sharing a police cell appeared in the Bellville District Court on Thursday.

Daniel Dyosi and Sipho Mhlanga's bail application was postponed by Magistrate Jannie Kotze to Monday as the investigating officer was unable to attend proceedings on Thursday.

Dyosi, 40, and Mhlanga, 29, allegedly beat 47-year-old Eben Meyer to death in a cell at Durbanville police station on 21 April, after Meyer was arrested in the early hours of the morning for being drunk.

Police found Meyer's body in the cell later that morning with serious head injuries.
